We are immersed in an increasingly complex society, with realities, communities and very diverse individuals that live in the everyday life of the cities, sometimes with great difficulties, and that have a “mirror universe” on social networks. We see a resurgence in authoritarianism and the reduction in or control of individual and collective freedoms. Information often reaches us distorted. Privacy is an increasingly scarce asset. Populisms proliferate ... The public space is, now more than ever, the stronghold to counteract the drift of a society where economic identities are more important than individual or cultural identities. Paradoxically, the street becomes the ideal space to preserve the particularities that are, in short, the basis of plurality. We must facilitate an environment of cultural freedom without censorship and with respect for different expressions. We have to open new channels, new languages, new demands. FiraTàrrega, as a reference point for the street arts, wants to mediate this demand of public space as a framework for the exercise of artistic creativity, but also, and inseparably, of the freedoms, fundamental rights, respect, citizenship, coexistence and vindication and of the social transformation that must allow us to face decently the challenges of 21st-century society. We want to inaugurate FiraTàrrega 2019 with an unprecedented and bold format that goes beyond the performing arts. We want to put a debate on the Public Space on stage in the agora of Tàrrega, its main square. To talk about its ability to host artistic creation, the questioning of reality, social debate and transformation. To supply this our community with dialogue.
