Synopsis

Four merchants who represent the old Puritan tradition of the middle classes face the new Venetian frivolity. They try to impose their traditional customs on women and prohibit everything that can be considered eccentric or beyond the norm. A classic comedy by the great author Carlo Goldoni, first published in 1760, and which at the time was surprising for the psychological complexity of the characters, far from the stereotypes of the “commedia dell’arte”.
