FiraTàrrega. Teatre al carrer

Synopsis

The 25th of November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It commemorates the murder of the sisters Minerva, Patria and Mª Teresa Mirabal, by the police of the Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo while visiting their imprisoned husbands. In 2018 to commemorate this day, the Department of Equality Policies of Tàrrega Town Council produced an installation with a metal structure in the form of a cube that symbolises a cage and the women’s experience in relationships of gender violence. Over 970 chains hang from the lattice ceiling of the structure, one for each woman killed in Spain between 2003 and 2018 and 40 more chains for these women’s children who were also killed. The aim is for the visitors experience the feeling of being trapped and become aware of the magnitude of the problem of gender violence in our society.
