FIRATÀRREGA 2009 WILL HOST A TECHNICAL MEETING DEDICATED TO THE STREET ARTS IN EUROPE

08/07/2009

The meeting closes the cycle of conferences aimed at professionals, organised by the FiraTàrrega and the Business Development Service (SDE) in the Catalan Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIC) about street arts and circus.

Apart from programming spectacles, FiraTàrrega 2009 will also include parallel activities for the performing arts professionals (round tables, conferences, talks, etc.). One of the most important is the technical meeting about the Meridians network, to be held on 10th September during the Fira and that this month has opened the period of inscription for professionals accredited to the event.

Under the title “The street arts in Europe”, the meeting will serve to present the results of the first experiences of the Meridians networks, which brings together the six leading street art festivals in Europa and is coordinated by FiraTàrrega. The presentation, that includes a video documentary about the production process of the creations produced by the network in 2008, will have the participation of the artistic directors of the co-organising festivals: Fabien Audooren (ISTF Miramiro, Ghent), Bernhard Bub (Sommerwerft Festival, Frankfurt), Goro Osojnik (Ana Desetnica Festival, Ljubljana), Frank Wilson (SIRF, Stockton) and Jordi Colominas (FiraTàrrega).

The main activity of the meeting will be the round table about street arts as a transformers of public spaces; a debate about the relation between creation in public places and the local authorities. There will be representatives from Frankfurt (Germany), Ghent (Belgium), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Polverigi (Italy), Stockton (United Kingdom) and Tàrrega on the round table.

Meridians is a network for the creation and coproduction of street arts in non-conventional venues through exchanges of creators between different European countries. Thanks to this programme, that has backing of the European Union, there were three productions done last year by these festivals, two of which were seen at FiraTàrrega 2008.

The Seminar to be held in Tàrrega closes the cycle of street art and circus technical meetings that FiraTàrrega and the SDE of the ICIC have programmed during this year. The first, about “Street arts and the company”, took place in Barcelona; and the second, about “Street arts and safety”, was held in Salt (Girona).
